The Explorer is a passenger-carrying vessel, which has a current U.S.C.G. certificate of inspection and meets all of the requirements under C.F.R. 46 subchapter T.


Accommodations: Berthing is provided for passengers in the foreword of the main cabin/galley. They can be entered port and starboard, and include (20) single berths and (8) double berths, all with vinyl-covered cushions. This area is well lit and ventilated.


Galley Equipment: The galley is renewed Formica trimmed with teak. There are three dinettes with renewed seat cushions, which provide seating for 18. The galley has a stainless steel double sink, chest cooler, refrigerator, freezer, electric cook top, microwave, toaster, coffee pot and chest freezer on the bridge. There is a hood vent over the cook top, great counter space and plenty of lockers and stowage.


Electronic and Navigational Gear: Includes (1) VHF Radio ICOM #IC-80, (1) VHF Radio Lorad Black Star, (1) Radar SiTex T-80, (1) Radar Raytheon #2600, (1) Echo Sounder JRC JFV-90, (1) Echo Sounder SiTex CVS-118, (1) Loran C SiTex C70, (1) GPS Micrologic Mariner Plus, (1) Plotter SiTex Nav Add 900, (1) 13 Samsung TV with VCR, (1) AM/FM Cassette, (1) Ships clock and barometer, (1) Horn, (1) Hand-held spotlight and (1) magnetic compass.

Electrical: DC power is supplied from 12-Volt deep cycle batteries size 8D. One bank port and starboard of 2 x 12 = 24-Volt per engine for starting. There is (1) 12-Volt for generator starting the engines. The afore mentioned are maintained with a Lewco charger in the engine room. There is also (1) 12-Volt battery for the bridge electronics that is maintained by a Professional Mariner charger. 120/240-Volt 3 phase is supplied from one Northern Lights 30 kw generator.

Hull & Deck Gear: The hull construction is plywood with fiberglass laminate. New bottom paint was applied at the last dry dock in May of 1999. The hull was painted in 1996 and new hydraulic steering in 1997. The deck has a non-skid surface and is clear of obstructions. There are handrails that are capped with varnished wood all around. There is seating on the aft deck and stowage for air bottles around the perimeter. Freeman type hatches are on the fore deck and the stern. There are also hatches to the engine room and compressor room of adequate height. Access to the dive platform is through two walk-through doors in the transom with a short ladder that leads down to the platform. The deck is well lighted all around. The deck was renewed with the West System in 1998.Ground tackle includes (1) Bruce 66 lb. Anchor (located on the bow with 100 of 3/8 chain and 300 of Samson braided nylon rode). There is also (1) Bruce 33 lb. Anchor and (1) Northill 75 lb. Anchor.Fire Extinguishing Systems include a fixed system in the engine room (Type FM200). Portables on board include (6) B-II, (1) B-I, (1) Fire hose to deck and 1 pump on electric motor.Dewatering Equipment includes a mechanically driven pump on the starboard main engine, as well as a electric pump are on a manifold, correctly labeled, at the foreword bulkhead of the engine room. There are (4) 12-Volt pumps with alarms in place as well.Safety Equipment includes all required equipment (current) as per the C.O.I., (53) personal flotation devices, (6) childs size personal flotation devices and (50) life floats. Note that all flotation devices are located under the dinette seating.

Engine Details: The two main engines are General Motors 12-V-71-N.A. with a combined horse power of 1060. The cooling is seawater and the exhaust is wet through the stainless pipe, with mufflers out the stern. The engine room is entered from foreword on the aft deck or on the port side.

Remarks: This vessel is presently operating in The Channel Islands area!
